Can anyone tell me why this police station in the Rotherham area has a 3-letter code of GOZ in the National Rail Enquiries database. Is it anything to do with the British Transport Police?

Probably the site of a bus stop.

Google Maps certainly suggests a local bus stop goes by the name of Goldthorpe Police Station, and given its proximity to the station - about 400m - this theory is certainly feasible. Not being local though, I couldn't confirm Eagle is right though (it does look likely however).

The Stagecoach X19 stops there IIRC - this service used to have through fares onto GNER services to/from London at Doncaster (since GNER preferred passengers to use connecting coaches than having to share ORCATS money by having them use local train services...). So you could go Barnsley - London that way, and GNER would pick up almost all of the money, rather than passengers using trains via Sheffield when Midland Mainline would get most of the revenue.

However I'm not aware of any through tickets from the X19 onto trains at Goldthorpe.

The K204 GOZ is now just known as "Goldthorpe" and prints as "GOLDTHORPE BUS".

Not currently in use though.

Horrible place! Most people from Goldthorpe rarely stray further than Meadowhall. Anything further and its a proper day excursion for them.
