Can gold cards issued for an annual standard class season ticket be used to get a discount on first class fares?

Annual Gold Cards cannot be used to garner discounts on First Class fares. The ticket types they garner discounts on are:

Anytime: SDS, SDR, SOS, SOR, GPR, ADT (when bought as part of a ticket to London from outside Zones 1 – 9)

Off-Peak: CDS, CDR, SVS, SVR, ODT, SCO, STO, OPS, OPR, PDS, PDR

However Gold Card First Supplements are available to Annual Gold Card holders and up to 3 accompanying adults and 4 children for whom a discounted fare has been paid (see below for full details). The bar on First Class fare discounts applies even if the Annual Gold Card is available for First Class travel.

the reason why I ask is that the ticket machines at Victoria offer the gold card discount on first class fares - or did a few months ago when I was travelling to Bognor Regis one evening and wondering whether to buy a first or standard ticket
