Hi there.
I am going to Southampton tommorow.
I have just been on the National Rail site to get fares.
I have an annual gold card and when I put in a day return journey for tommorow leaving Hastings at 10.15 returning Southampton at 6pmish,
the fare comes out as showing a one third discount off of the first class fares too.
Can this be right?
I thought that this discount only applied to the Senior and Disabled railcards???
If this is correct, it would suit me to get this £15 first class return as the trains are often rammed - especially on the way back at 6pm - but I wanted to check that this was not a 'glitch' in the ticketing programme.
Cheers in advance for any help over this one.

If its a glitch in the system...
why don't you purchase it, collect from the station, they have to supply you with it dont they?

A superlative suggestion, sir, with just two minor flaws. One, NRES don't sell tickets, and two, NRES don't sell tickets. Now I realise that, technically speaking, that's only one flaw but I thought it was such a big one it was worth mentioning twice.;)

A Hastings to Southampton Off Peak Day return discounted with a gold card Route Barnham should be £10.95 plus £5.00 First Class Supplement total £15.95 by my reckoning.
"Holders of Annual Gold Cards Season Tickets and Travelcards may buy a special First Class upgrade for £5.00 (children £2.50) when travelling on a Standard Class ticket which has received an Annual Gold Card discount.

This allows travel in First Class accommodation on trains within the Network Railcard area on for the date shown on the supplement ticket. If the return journey is made on another day, a further Supplement ticket must be purchased.

On Saturdays, Sundays and Public Holidays you may travel in First Accommodation by simply paying the supplement.

The Gold Card First Supplement ticket may be used in First Class after 1000 Monday to Friday and at any time on Saturdays, Sundays and Public Holidays. In addition, the Gold Card First Supplement cannot be used on journeys departing from any London terminal station or any intermediate journey between London and Clapham Junction inclusive between 1600 and 1900 (inclusive)."
