Golborne station reopening - How might it be served?

Victoria to Stalybridge should really be sped up some more, now that that is the trunk. Not that Piccadilly-Guide Bridge is a speedy stretch either!

Ideally this should call at Patricroft and be a proper local service, and build ridership (and housing/demand) at the interim stops.
And really, Salford Central too, but that's a whole other can of worms (I had hoped might come back)

Why? It's four tracked for exactly this sort of purpose.

AIUI the platforms will be built on the fast lines so trains calling at the station for the planned hourly service will block long distance fast passenger trains. The timetable will clearly be designed to deal with this but this will surely be a further complication to the timetabling of trains between London and Scotland on the West Coast Mainline.

Yes and no. As you say, any timetabling will deal with it, but the fast trains will always be first on the graph.

I'd suggest that if 2tph can be timetabled at Welwyn North, Golborne isn't going to cause huge problems.
