A bit difficult for me too as there is half a bottle of Pinot Grigio left to consume from yesterday evenings meal, would be a shame to let it go to waste wouldn't it?

I found a full glass of wine on the table from last night earlier and I ceremoniously threw it out of the window (then went outside and licked the floor).

Oh well this is all very helpful!
What about solidarity brothers? (Come to think of it Solidarity sounds like a good name for a dark ale)

Alcohol tastes crap and smoking is gross. So I don't really understand the business of giving those things up, when not doing those things is easier than doing them. Giving up chocolate would be more of a challenge.

I'll be drinking little or no alcohol during October, but not because of some charity fad. I've recently changed medication to one which amplifies the effect of alcohol, so I'm taking it steady... once my body has acclimatised to the medication I'll save money, too!

I decided one year to match my spending on alcohol with charity contributions for a month. That was expensive...

Good for you. I'll raise a glass in your honour tonight.

Indeed, over here we do both. Surprised nobody has started a one for celibacy as well, unless they couldn't find a decent tagline?

There are probably more people trying to escape celibacy than embrace it.

Perhaps we should have Stoplaughter while we're at it. Oh no think I'm doing that one actually.

So far then it's looking like I'm the only person on here doing it? Well I'm sure nobody on here'll rub my nose in it by telling me what drink they're enjoying tonight.

Well, i'm currently partaking in a couple of bottles of Holy Grail. So no sober October, and evidently no Stoplaughter either.

Oh, you said don't tell you?

I've just had a week's all inclusive holiday where the complimentary beer was Amstel. If I don't have a Sober October I won't fit through the door.

Well, as someone said upthread all alcohol tastes crap. I therefore have no problem in opening another, nobody else is going to want it, are they?

Myself and my brother -- who self-confessedly tend to alcoholic consumption in excess of what is either healthy or wise -- are doing "Sober in October", both for health reasons and to achieve much-needed saving of cash. However -- what with very recent stressful circumstances related to moving of domicile; and today, Sun. Oct. 1st, being our first day for a few, allowing a degree of relaxation -- we gave ourselves a dispensation to drink for this day, the 1st; and begin Sober October on the 2nd. We'll compensate by extending teetotal spell to include Nov. 1st.

Support to all who seek to achieve the abstinent month.

Amen, Mr. Cowley -- who needs fermented beverages anyway? We folk with our hobby can be happily "away with the fairies" for a great deal of the time, without any such artificial aids...

I very well might, but given that my entire intake for September was two beers at a work event on Friday night it won't be much of a sacrifice. :)
