Go Karting

Has anybody on here been Go Karting?
It has been provisionally and mutually agreed between certain road vehicle drivers on NR, that a Go Karting session will be arranged to preserve the sanity of other staff, by allowing these individuals to sort it out on the track.
I offered to have an initial look. As far as i could work out, there no tracks within decent range of our depot. However there are two tracks within easy reach of the worst offenders, who live on the South Coast. This would sort out some issues, but not all of them.
When i looked up tracks and packages, it seemed to me that for the money you are paying, you aren't getting much track time.
I made an informal approach to the management for funding, quoting the buzz word "Team Building" but it was a flat no :cry: I found that hard to understand as some of them have been supportive of the idea, stating it would extend the service life of certain vehicles if the drivers no longer raced each other.

I went karting as part of an RCCGB* group at Heathertons (Nr Narberth, Pembrokeshire) about a month ago. Because the Club chairman had booked us all in as a single large group and AFAICR had actually hired out the track itself (Plus all the other necessities) it worked out to something like £10-£12 each for about 60-90 mins karting...Which IMO isn't bad for a group of, maybe, 25 of us! 8)

If ye can all assemble a large enough group (Over 25 should be ideal, the more the merrier) and get everyone to make their own contribution to the event, then it'd probabally be worth hiring out a whole go-kart track for an hour or two, rather than just booking everyone in as part of a normal public session.

If ye can get 40 people together for two hours, and assuming that inclusive track hire is about £250/hr, then two hours hire over 40 people works out to £12.50 each. If ye bump that up to £15 a head, then ye could make a little side profit (As an organiser's fee, or maybe prize money?) on top of the event, too! 8)

Whilst it might be a bit out of your way, I have been to Birmingham Wheels many times (as a youth and as an adult). It's the Go-Karting track you can see when pulling into or out of the Southern end of Birmingham New Street along the WCML (roughly between Adderley Park and Proof House Jcn)

I have been karting many times, but abroad on the whole as there isn't a karting track particularly close by. As a fan of F1 for many years, it was a great experience to actually get out on a track and I would highly recommend it to anybody! A good laugh when you're with friends too
