It was an entirely predictable race from start to finish, nobody looked remotely like challenging Vettel for the lead.

I found today's race boring. I enjoyed last season but it's starting to seem like the Schumacher years again, albeit Vettel.

There are rumours the BBC are going to dump F1 at the end of 2012 so that they can keep BBC 3 open with the money saved. If it's anything like this season, I wouldn't miss it.

I hope not! ITV absolutely ruined F1 for me with their instance on having an add break every 12 minutes and I don't think any of the sky channels would do it better...not for free anyway!

Don't know why anyone bothers with BBC3 with all the tat and crap they air on there.

Does anyone remember when ITV had the contract and missed out the last few laps of a race, due to advertisments being shown?

It took them a while to live that mistake down.

And went for a break just when Schumacher's tyre burst at Suzuka in 98 (I think). They missed the exact moment that decided the championship.

This was the first race since Magny Cours 2001 that I've considered turning off, it was that dull. Martin Brundle saying after the race not to judge the circuit based on this race - no Martin, Valencia is inherently boring by design, we've known this since 2008, the Spanish just can't do race tracks.

More like F1 shouldn't have got into bed with Hermann Tilke for EVERY SINGLE newly-built racing track in the world. What a surprise, they're all the same! Who would have thought it?

A friend of mine went to Valencia last year and said that the atmosphere there is rubbish, because it's outside of the "city" and no-where near anything else.

It's not a coincidence that the best races are often at places like Spa, Albert Park, Silverstone, Montréal, Suzuka. These tracks are all very different in terms of design, but all are rich in history and tradition.

Sportscar racing has had my attention this season, and it'll get even better next year with the introduction of a Drivers' Championship. Just look at the venues: Le Mans, Imola, Silverstone, Spa - amazing.

Bring back the old Nurburgring as well

Impossible for modern F1 cars, as I'm sure you know. It's just not safe enough. It looks hairy in GT cars, lord knows what it'd be like in a single-seater.

The 24 Hours of Nürburgring was on at the weekend though, fascinating racing. At one point there was heavy rain at the Carousel but none on the pit straight. Racing around there for 24 hours must really take it out of you, jesus.

If Vettel is the best driver in the best car then why should the rules be changed just to make things more interesting. I'd prefer to see the fastest drivers/cars win rather than have faster cars stuck behind others with no way of overtaking as has often been the case in recent years.

they're trying with KERS and DRS and tyres, but ultimately, Vettel has the best car and he is the best driver.

Yes and I'd much prefer this to having the dull seasons in recent years where the best drivers were stuck behind other cars as it was impossible to overtake.

Yeah, I used to work with a guy who did that, I am completely ruined after 1 lap let alone a full 24hr. Absolutely crazy stuff

I almost think that they over-engineered that track now, I've driven it so much, I've run it on the PS3 so much, it's actually getting tedious! :o

In terms of F1, didn't Heidfeld take a Williams round the nordschleife a few years ago? He just went round the top of Karussel so as to not rip his front wing off :)

totally, it's much more interesting this year, I am loving it, but it's still the same outcome, best driver + best car = winner.

How many different rule changes did they try with Schumacher? Tons, and did it change anything? no.

We underestimate Adrian Newey at our peril ;)

That's how it should be. The rules of tennis would never be changed to stop Federer winning and he dominated for years with very little opposition. If other teams want to compete then they have to improve. Webber is allowed to race Vettel and has the same car so if he wants to challenge Vettel then he needs to improve.

In the days of Ferrari, McLaren and Williams at the top, who ever would have remotely considered Red Bull as a main contender for the Constructors title?

And quite right too! Next year somebody is bound to reel them in a bit. Every dominant team gets caught up with in the end, look at Williams now, or the original Lotus.

I don't think Vettle is the best driver. I think the best drivers out there in terms of actual racing skill would be Lewis/Kobayashi and Schumacher. Vettle has been gifted the best car in the field, and therefore can get on pole and start pretty well and hold first place. The guy isn't a stand out daring overtaker, he's made the best out of a bloody good situation :)

It surely is a combination of both car and driver that makes for a real contender for being a top driver. The driver learns how to get the best out of the car....and the testing and development of the car by the team technical staff is just as important.

It's car and driver. Look at Schumacer. Once upon a time he was in a Ferrari, and when he had that Ferrari he was the top dog by several miles, mainly contested by Fernando Alonso. Schumacer now drives a Mercedes that struggles to average anything above seventh or sixth. Technically, it could be argued that he's past his best and shouldn't have come back, though look at what happened to Alonso when he left Mclaren and went home to Renault. Amazing driver, poor car let him down. I think Vettel does have talent. Even in his days at Toro Rosso, the sister team to Red Bull, he demonstrated excellent technique and creditable performances. I can see him going far, very far. I also see a bright future for Adrian Sutil, but he'll have to get out of a Force India before he can hit the big time.

And Hakkinen in the McLaren, which was a brilliant car in its own right. Really, the best way to compare cars is to compare second drivers. Coulthard could usually keep up with Hakkinen, whilst Irvine and Barrichello very rarely got anywhere near Schumacher, and as for Verstappen, Lheto and Herbert at Benetton, only Herbert ever won a race, and both times that was after Schumacher and Hill had taken each other off. When Ferrari were at their best, the McLarens could not even keep up with Barrichello, but that was not the case at the turn of the millennium. Reubens tended to end up third or fourth quite often.

Vettel seems to be proving a point by beating Webber consistently (although I hope that changes at Silverstone), but Webber is ahead of Massa by quite a margin. This suggests it's a bit of both, car and driver.

Id love to see a GP around the LeMans track

Didn't they try with the Bugatti circuit once?

I don't think Coulthard had anything in his contract saying he wasn't allowed to race Hakkinen.

The only time there was, sort of, was when Ron Dennis said the first one into the first corner of Melbourne 1998 wins, Hakkinen was so Coulthard moved over.

I still use Barrichelo on F1 2003, back in his Ferrari days!

Massa was incredibly unlucky in the year which Hamilton won the title. He came so close. I think what let him down was the fact that he posted so many amazing times in qualifying, yet when it came down to the race, his performance let him down.

Vettel is winning the battle at Red Bull by several circuit miles. I wonder if Webber will stay. There's talk of Lewis leaving Mclaren, but I think he'll stick with them. After all, they did bring him into the racing world.

The thread says GO JENSON....but I cannot see him going to any other team, especially with the speculation regarding Lewis Hamilton.

Lewis is on a slippery slope right now. He's still young, but he's really had the critics on his back (whether or not he deserved to is another matter).

He was quite unlucky not to win the title in his first year. Lewis can't go to Ferrari, as I imagine Alonso will stay put with them until retirement. I doubt he would go to Red Bull, as Vettel won't be leaving, and even if Webber did, a Vettel-Lewis partnership would effectively remake Lews-Alonso. One way or the other, I can't help thinking that behind the scenes, Mr Hamilton is not happy, and if that doesn't change, he might consider his alternative options.
