Gnoming

Has anyone ever participated in an activity called Gnoming? Where by you take a Gnome everywhere and have his picture taken all the time? Normally this is done with a stolen Gnome and he is eventually returned with an album of all the places he has been, but I'd rather not break the law and get a cheap Gnome from the hardware store.


Well this is something I have never thought of before up until my Rover Scout Crew ran an activity weekend for the older scouts where they took a Gnome all round Melbourne in teams and did weird activities with him.

Since then, I now have a Gnome that I take all over the place. Normally he sits buckled up on the back seat of the car, but unfortunately he got broken then smashed then glued back together and now rests on a bookcase until i can get a new Gnome.

So far he has been all over Melbourne, he has had his picture taken in most places and he is now eagerly awaiting his trip to Sydney, Cairns and Brisbane on a cruise ship in December.

So can anyone share something equally as weird as this that they have done?

wow, thats awesome. Much easier to transport about the place than a heavy or fragile Gnome though. Its amazing what people take with them on holiday though and take its picture everywhere.

This is not a new idea.

Mrs O L Leigh is a teacher and quite some years back there was a national strategy for primary school teachers where teddies were taken to various places around the world and would send back photos and postcards of their travels.

I do think it's quite cool, though. It forms the basis of the current London "2 for 1" days out campaign (click).

Well, I would imagine that most of them would be pretty similar, apart from the menu's being a little different. But Macas in Australia are actually quite modern looking now and burgers are made when ordered rather than piles of them sitting under a heat light.

I've been to Macas in London and in Bangkok as well as a Macas in most states of Australia. Plus I work in one too haha.

One of my friends admitted he wanted to visit every country pup in Victoria and order a Palma and keep the receipt. A Palma is flat piece of chicken, usually a schnitzel with tomato paste and melted cheese on it served with either chips of salad. Not sure if you have that there.

Up here in north east England (Middlesbrough area) we have the Parmo- very similar but without the tomato paste, usually pork or chicken topped with cheese sauce and breadcrumbs. In a popular variation we also add chillies, sweet peppers, onoins and pepperoni on top to make a 'hot shot' -very nice after a night out

I suspect some tees-siders might be upset to find that their local dish is not quite as unique as they thought!

Sounds interesting, but I best dare not change something that is so great and what potentially be a national dish.

In other News, Senator Oscar Gomez's statute is severely damaged, it was broken twice on an outing in Melbourne and to continue the adventure a new statute needs to be purchased.

My question that I put to you is; Do I get another one exactly the same, or a different one that would be known as 'Senator Oscar Gomez II', but officially he would still be known as 'Senator Oscar Gomez'.
