I thought I would open a new thread on the GNER brass crest. Would anybody know how many were produced and the value of these today?
Actually GNERs' mark 4 "Pullman" rakes (I think there were three of them, but can't accurately recall), with an additional FO, were fitted with the cast badges while the rest of the mark 4 fleet received a vinyl application, so I think it was more a matter of cost.Only the mk3 vehicles had cast crests, the mk4s had vinyls (something to do with not being able to drill into the bodyside I think..?)
A good portion of that cost being associated with the difficulty of casting the required size to suit the curved bodyside. Presumably the Mark 3 bodyside curved less, or in a way that was easier to cast.Actually GNERs' mark 4 "Pullman" rakes (I think there were three of them, but can't accurately recall), with an additional FO, were fitted with the cast badges while the rest of the mark 4 fleet received a vinyl application, so I think it was more a matter of cost.
That and difficulty to fit them. They were quite heavy, so fixing them meant removing seats and interior panelling to fit them. Easy enough on the Mark 3s as they were going through Wolverton for C3 overhaul and refurbishment, so the interiors were gutted anyway. The Mark 4s were just stopped for repaints with no interior work. Hence the change to vinyls.Actually GNERs' mark 4 "Pullman" rakes (I think there were three of them, but can't accurately recall), with an additional FO, were fitted with the cast badges while the rest of the mark 4 fleet received a vinyl application, so I think it was more a matter of cost.

Ah, that certainly sheds some light on the reasons why. Very interesting to find this out, thanks. That and difficulty to fit them.
