GN/GE Joint Line Updates Needed

Hi to all,
Im after some updates on how the upgrade is progressing along the 86 mile route between Peterborough and Doncaster via Lincoln as the project should be completed by April 2014 or the end of CP4.

I have read in a rail magazine recently that the signalboxes on the southern sections will be closed by April next year but Im not so sure given the little amount of actual work I see regarding track work, level crossings and the resignalling of the line.

Can anyone shed any light into how far behind the upgrade is?

The 'official' line or 'real' one?

Last i heard publicly it's on course, but in reality at least 6 mths behind. I've heard a suggestion of a shutdown from late December to start on the first phase. The last piece [Gainsborough - Doncaster] is expected to be done by August 2014.

I used this line on Oct 8 from Peterborough to Lincoln and return, seems to be quite a bit of work going on especially at level crossings. At one crossing a new AHB was being installed, at others I could not see what they were doing but probably same again. Also new cable trough from Sleaford to half way to Spalding, empty, and covers stacked at regular intervals. Also noticed a new signal but it looked like one of those level-crossing-is-working flashers rather than a regular signal.

What about the avoiding line around Sleaford, when I last went by during the summer one of the tracks was still disconnected

Gainsborough - Lincoln due to be commissioned December 2013
Lincoln - Sleaford due April 2014
Sleaford - Spalding due May 2014
Spalding - Werrington Junction (ECML) due August 2014

I understand that there will be various closures of the route during November and over the festive period.

Recently in a local paper, NR gave notice that 3 level crossings in Spalding would be closed during Easter 2014 for 2 weeks.

And there is still trackwork taking place.

The Up Avoider can still be used. The Down Avoider won't be used as long as the old signalling is still in place, as there is an issue with track circuits being incompatiable (i've heard something on the lines that when they connected them up to the current 'boxes, it caused mulitple track circuits on multiple lines to show occupied without any trains around! :roll. It'll be back in use once control of the lines moves over to Lincoln SCC.
