As far as I can remember, the Class 387 fleet operated by GN are limited to 100mph because of their pantograph, which was changed (as far as I recall) to be the same as the 377. Now the fleet is exclusively operated on the GN, is there any chance that they may be able to operate at 110 again?

Pans were never changed as far as I can remember, but believe the speed limit is still in place

I think the restriction is in place due the old OHL on the ECML don't like multiple pans running about 100mph.

What sort of time saving is there to be had running from Kings Cross to Hitchin at 110mph over 100? And does this help with pathing in any way?

The ride is a little bumpy now, it'd be rather "fun" a little faster...

Not much if the train is turned in at Woolmer Green then it's 75mph on the slow. Even if the train got routed up to and turned in at Hitchin South junction, it wouldn't get up to 100mph due to the 70mph lead so the train can actually stop at Hitchin.

All 387's were built with 110 mph max speed, I believe its down to the old OHL which cant cope mutiple pans at high speed, That explain why they can't go higher than 100 when it was with thameslink compared to WCML and GWML where you seen a number of multiple 387's at 110mph.

The 373s on the White Rose services could run at up to 110mph could they not? They were running about on two pan's.

2 pantographs 270 metres apart is rather different to (up to) 3 pantographs in 80 metres

I thought the OHL has (not very long ago) been tested for 125mph running with at least two pantographs, including the class 800/801 "worst case" of both "inner end" paragraphs up on a 2x5 car unit formation?

No, there is (or was) a restriction for degraded mode running, 100mph max for "inner" - "outer" and either 75mph or 80mph (I can't quite remember) for "inner" - "inner". That's not to say they didn't test it to confirm how bad the contact quality would be.

Edited to add - That restriction was supposed to be hard coded into the TMS by Hitachi.
