If you take the 18.32 Manchester Vic train from Wallgate to Salford Crescent (arr.19.02)and change to the 1926 Manchester Airport service from Salford to Piccadilly (arr. 19.37). The furthest station in Greater Manchester from Wigan geographically is probably Marple (or Strines but there's not much there) or Glossop.
There is a 19.45 service from Manchester to Marple (New Mills Central train arr Marple at 20.09) with a return service to Manchester at 21.37 (arr. 22.02) to catch the 22.16.
Alternatively take the 19.48 to Glossop (Hadfield service arriving 20.20), with a return at 20.37 arriving 21.12. There is also a return at 21.37 but this only allows 4 minutes in Manchester to get the 22.16
Evening returns are also available to Congleton which is further out and outside the GM area and the absolute furthest from Wigan you could do on evening returns in the time, however you would need a seperate ticket from Bramhall (GM boundary station) as there is no through fare from Wigan. You could get the 19.48 (Stoke train) there and return on the 21.12 however it would be a lot dearer than the £1.80 fare to Marple or Glossop.
