At least they aren't as major as Rugby/Liverpool Street, but they will at least cause the peak time traveller in those two areas, especially Birmingham-Euston, some disruption.

I bet XC are glad they can simply divert via Tyesley, and miss Brum Int & Cov out..

Also be quite glad that iversions are in operation, unlike at Paisley, Liv. St or Rugby! Something needs to be done about this; itr ceased to be funny a long time ago.

Dear Iain

I have read your comments in the press about Bechtel and Rugby.

I was very disappointed that there was no mention of the Liverpool Street fiasco which clearly had nothing to do with Bechtel and everything to do with the way in which the contractor's performance was managed by Network Rail.

I was assured that proper scrutiny of the project at Liverpool Street would be undertaken by Network Rail on a regular basis, indeed every 8 hours. The information coming through this process was not worth reading. As at 0400 ( the time of handback!) the reports were that the work would be substantially completed and services could operate. In the end 70 people were required overnight on the 2nd to complete the works which had already been significantly reduced in scope. Indeed Liverpool Street is less resilient to performance risk than before the work started due to the reduction in platform isolation flexibility.

I am very concerned that the underlying causes of this are to be 'brushed under the carpet'. This is a major failure by Network Rail, first and foremost.

Forgive my lack of confidence. But we have already discussed the risks of the Olympic's work following the overrun in August at Stratford and I remain to be convinced that management approaches have changed, particularly as my customers were victim to a staggering 32 engineering overruns in rail period 8 . I wrote to Peter Henderson on this issue and have still not had a reply or explanation.

You may gather that I am not happy.

Andrew

Nobody. It was a quote from this morning's Telegraph. 'One' wrote to NR, and that's a copy of the email. It seems they are not best pleased either!

I think it goes to prove that it doesn't matter who owns the railway, it's good management and professionalism that makes it run well. No wonder Sir Ian retired back to his home and let the experts get on with it (his words not mine), he's used to flogging cars for a living.

In retrospect what has been bad about the 'private' railway is the cost. The setting up of Network rail certainly has helped there either, although they have achieved some efficiencies it's still not as good as Railtrack, and nowhere near BR.

The Coventry route was still open despite having over running engineering works, the VXC diverts are regular when ever anything goes wrong on the Cov line to reduce congestion.

At least it was open and people got to work unlike the Rugby and Stratford fiasco

Yeah, I personally think that the Warwick Uni line is a rather nice route to ride along, and like you say, it provides a congestion reducing route from Birmingham to Leam.
