As a seasoned Tribute engineer and a career at HP spanning several years before that, there's little more I can do - I have virtually replaced every component. It seems to be the Steam plugin that causes the aggro. The program updates via Steam so it's not like it can be installed standalone.

As Valve Games Inc. (Trading as Steam) are conveniently in Luxembourg with no telephone contact number and only email (which they have NOT responded to), there's little I can do. There's more chance of West Ham United playing in the Champions League than me getting this program to work, sadly... Even the most basic settings cause it to crash. I've cleared the cache, removed temp files (even hidden ones), Windows Defender reports no issues, and I don't want to remove virus scanners just to play a sim.

I have 1GB Video RAM on my card, 1TB hard disk, Core i3 CPU, 5GB RAM, yet I'm struggling like Katie Price in a spelling contest. Go figure

So I wiped it off. £50 gone, but I've got money. Thanks for your advice though ;)

Steam shouldn't be affecting how the game plays.

What I would suggest is emailing RSC Support (support@railsimulator.com). Maybe asking them if it's possible for a refund as Steam/Valve have been ignoring your emails - Valve can take 10 days or so to reply.

Have you tried reinstalling the game?

Have you installed any extra mods such as files from UKTrainSim etc.?

Valve (Steam) are actually based in North America, but I believe they have Luxembourg as to comply with EU regulations. I'm no expert on law, but I believe if the game doesn't work as intended then you are entitled to a refund under EU law.

I will try dropping another email, but I don't think I'll get refunded. If they gave me credit for OMSI2, I'd happily accept ;)

I was asking for advice for a resolution, having tried all the settings and permutations within the game to try and get the thing to work. Just drop it now. This is MY issue, not yours.

There has been constructive advice. So, let's start again with basic facts, try not to resort to personal insults again, the thread may end up getting purged.

Firstly, one thing I did notice that was asked, but wasn't answered was what version of windows you are running, in terms of 32-bit or 64-bit? If it is 32-bit, you can throw as much RAM as you like at it, but it will only see 3.5gb. So that could be an issue. It shouldn't be an issue that means you cannot play in some capacity though, so that one has me stumped.

Secondly, asking RSC/DTG support probably won't be fruitful as they don't really have the capacity to give you a refund, this is something that only the vendor (Steam) can normally do. As it is a recent purchase, RSC/DTG won't even be anywhere near receiving their percentage of what you had paid. However, as has already been said, Steam do tend to take quite a while to reply and although it isn't their policy to refund, it isn't unprecedented.

Finally, the issue in this thread is that everything is spread out and doesn't make any sense, making it very hard to help. Initially, it was a laptop but then it was a desktop as you had multiple systems, fair enough. But then, the system was said to be over five years old and you were reluctant to replace it. But later, this old system appears to have a processor in it that cannot be more than four years old. Therefore, it's all got a bit confusing.

Would you mind running 'DXDiag' and attaching the text file here so we can see exactly what is what?

I have edited numerous posts and deleted some others as this discussion was descending into personal attacks and flaming. I would remind everyone of the forum rules which you all agreed to when you signed up. Especially the following provision:

Respectful
  • We aim to create a friendly environment for all members, where individuals respect each other. Please ensure your contributions comply with this.

I would also remind everyone that if you have a problem with a post to report it (

) rather than responding and inflaming the situation.

Many thanks.

HP DC5800, 5gb RAM, Core2 duo CPU, 1TB HDD. Good enough spec unless I have to change the graphics card, but it's too much aggro for just one game. I have a ProBook laptop which I also installed the game on, even that runs like a dog. Laptop is a year old. Think I might just go get an X BOX and stick to regular games that work when you pay £50 for them. I tried even running it in the lowest possible graphics setting but it still didn't work. Ho hum.

Thanks for your kindness lads, take care

Mate, have a look at the power options and make sure they are set for high performance. And also make sure your drivers are up to date
