GLC _ Silverstone

Hi,
I am going to the Moto GP at Silverstone in September, I have my staff FirstScotrail pass and want to know if I could possibly use this to complete my journey, starting from GLC.

Just trying to fill in some of the gaps here.

First Scotrail pass entitles you to free travel on (I presume)

First Scotrail
First Transpennine Express
First Great Western
First Capital Connect

Hull Trains
Heathrow Connect


Silverstone is equidistant (15 miles) from Banbury, Northampton and Milton Keynes Central.


Fastest way would be getting a priv ticket from Glasgow to Milton Keynes.

Cheapest way would probably be using FTPE to Manchester then getting a priv to Milton Keynes or Banbury from there?

Or you could flash your pass at the train crew on duty and ask not that it's an official answer in any way...

Is there a MML station that would be handy that would then enable him to use TPE services to Sheffield? Just a thought....

Not actually been there, but I imagine Wolverton or Northampton are the closest stations, but I can't see either being especially close.

I reckon the closest First Group served station would be Bedford, which would be something like TPE to Manchester and on to Doncaster, then First Hull Trains to Kings Cross then FCC from St Pancras to Bedford. But that leaves you some way short of the circuit.

You could get TPE down to Manchester and then book a cheap Advance to Northampton, Wolverton, Milton Keynes or even Banbury. Or you could go to Luton (see route to Bedford) then get the 99 bus over to Milton Keynes.

Or, if you prefer, there is always getting a Virgin Trains service to Wolverhampton/Birmingham and changing there for Banbury, or going by Virgin Trains all the way to Milton Keynes.

Advance tickets would be the cheapest way to take the direct routes, PRIV tickets aren't particularly cheap on the West Coast.

Jings, it seems it's no an easy place to get to by rail, so much for moving it to Silverstone.
Cheers for the advice folks, was hoping I could have went by rail almost all the way, even if it meant going direct to London and doubling back, the more cost cutting means the more to spend on the event.

I don't know when you're going, but could you use the sleeper because that'd get you all the way down the WCML as far as I'm aware.

Silverstone is, in relative terms, a bit of a public transport backwater. It's quite a way from the nearest railhead (as mentioned above) & as far as I can see, has an hourly bus service from Northampton which extends (less frequently - roughly every 2 hours) to Brackley.

Might there be a special bus service laid on for this event? Perhaps worth contacting the organisers to enquire?

They seem to put on fleets of buses from MK so your best bet might be to alight there.

if you get a pass on the sleeper take that down to London ( or Watford) and get the LM back to MK Bring your tent and pitch it at the track and get the sleeper home on the Sunday night.

It is a right fart on to get form Northampton to Silverstone by bus and Banbury wont be in the right direction for your journey
