GLASTONBURY Thread!

This is envisaged to be a one-stop shop for Glastonbury and Rail fans to post:
1) Things they're looking forward to do or see over the weekend.
2) Tips on getting there or how to avoid the long queues heading there.

I'm not going but I'm looking forward to seeing Metronomy, Coldplay and BB King on the TV.

PS - Question for my friends; how good are the trains to get to Castle Cary from Wigan?

Not sure from Wigan but from London, Reading, Temple Meads FGW (And previously FM Rail & Wessex Trains) all had extra services running for the event.

Use the free buses at Cary station please don't do what loads do and walk, the roads arn't very good and can be very dangerous.

Also be curtious to the locals as for them it is hell. I will never go due to the owner and living near it for 16 years and don't want to go through the hell it was when trying to get anywere. But my own personal opioin.

It must be wonderful being there, but sat in the warm with a few beers and being able to watch on TV is good enough.

I like the whole Glastonbury thing, although I only went once (1990 - The Cure, Happy Mondays, Jesus Jones, Inspiral Carpets among many others), but sometimes I wonder if anyone in the BBC has considered the possibility that there might be people out there who are not interested in it at all.

I agree there, I like music but it doesn't appeal to me at all. Could be much better things on TV.

IMO anyone who wants saturation coverage of Glastonbury is there in person. I enjoyed Glastonbury and the whole festival and gig scene in my day (still do occasionally), but am not interested unless I can be there myself. The BBC are turning it into a mainstream institution like Comic Relief or something, totally missing its point.

Same here, I know a couple of people who go regularly but it doesn't appeal to me. Not the bands or the acts just the whole ambiance.

It, to me, is a bit like an open-air rave.

I'm watching it now on BBC2 with the Beyonce set. Looks amazing; I've always wanted to go to an event like that.

Will have to wait 2 years though; Glasto next year is cancelled due to a lack of portaloos caused by the Olympics.

I'd believe it. The khazis at Glastonbury have to be seen to be believed. The whole area for many yards around them in every direction is like Passchendaele by the second day. All you see near the Portaloos is queues of desperate looking women queueing, with every available inch of hedge being wazzed in by a bloke! Even when a woman gets to the front of the queue she is often so horrified by what lies behind the door of the available Portabog that she returns sheepishly to join the rear of the queue and wait for another one.

In other words, it's vile, and any reduction in the number of Portabogs for whatever reason would be likely to lead to a riot IMHO.

I'm very unimpressed with Glastonbury, perhaps because to my mind it ought to still be a rock festival and to have beyonce there is retarded.

Can't see it lasting much longer once the novelty of saying "I was there" wears off. Sonisphere is the new choice of festival

I'm in the Morris Minor owners club and a couple of years ago the National Rally was in that area. They had trouble getting portaloos as they were all at glastonbury.

I do agree with the sentiments that Glastonbury is becoming more mainstream. I have a nephew who went when Jay-Z was performing and he said there was a lot of opposition from the 'regulars' to his presence and/or style of music.
Personally being totally indifferent to the festival, I couldn't care less whether Doggy Snoop or whatever his name is plays, but I do think if it became more mainstream it would be a bit of a shame. The variety of some of the acts that appear is what makes Glastonbury appeal to the older generation.
