Glasgow Trains

Any idea if this is a definate go-er for Dec 2009?

Apparently its 2 services both ways Lpool - Preston - Carlisle - Glasgow Central and vice versa

and 2 services Nottm - Leeds - Settle - Carlisle - Glasgow

with the Lpool services to only serve Blackpool and Northwards on the weekends ie (Glasgow - Blackpool and vice versa)

Not heard anything about Glasgow trains for a long long time so I doubt it.

Lets assuming that the service was somehow running: Why would the Liverpool services go to Blackpool instead at weekends?

well they would go glasgow - blackpool and blackpool to glasgow

not lpool - blackpool as you may have got confused?

if not the only rational reason to bypass liverpool and hit blackpool may be as its a weekend destination with the beach/theme park etc.. whereas the liverpool service would be used more for business in the week

id like to see the service from liverpool, as it cuts out the horrendous stopper service to wigan before you can board a decent quick train up north

however i also see why there isnt much need for it, as again there are connections to wigan and bank quay for north services from lime street

It was supposed to start some time this year but news has been quiet for some time now regarding Glasgow although it is believed negotiations are still in place - most of the complexes were with regards capacity and operational issues. Also a new proposed station in Glasgow was under discussion.

The services was meant to divide at Preston and run to Liverpool or Nottingham so I'm guessing it would DMU traction would ave been used.

Meant to - ie: It was Planned, propesed, supposed to happen.


DMU traction was meant to/planned/proposed/supposed to be used due to the fact that the train was meant to divide at Preston before going on to Nottingham and Liverpool. Otherwise a stabled locomotive would have to be stabled at Preston to take the other portion of th train.
