Glasgow to Newcastle is valid via routes ER and GN, the former of which covers all routes (including Falkirk High) through the Central Belt.

(For the record, the latter is designated for routes via Carlisle and Hexham.)

So I'm fine doing Glasgow Queen St to Edinburgh via Falkirk High then? That's great, thanks.

I do this quite regularly
Depending on times, I travel :
Glasgow Central - (via Motherwell) Carlisle - Newcastle
Glasgow QS - (via Falkirk High) Edinburgh - Newcastle

I did this trip a while ago and went Newcastle- Edinburgh (had a break) - Glasgow QS - Walk to Central - then back to Newcastle on the direct Scotrail service via Kilmarnock, Dumfries and Carlisle. Cracking day out.

Thanks guys, should be on the 1100 from Queen St, just decending Beattock now. 1151 into Edinburgh, and then the 1230 to Newcastle.
