Glasgow to Newcastle return

Was pricing an off peak return and it appears this has gone over to single leg pricing, which is more expensive.
Is there a workaround?

You could travel via Carlisle, but would need split tickets. An Off Peak Return, Glasgow to Carlisle, "route Any Permitted", is £33.90. And an Anytime Short Return, Carlisle to Newcastle, "route via Hexham", is £27.40. Total £61.30 before any applicable railcards.

Yes, often done that option in the past. Driving to Carlisle and taking train across is time effective too.

Bit disappointed now as the one way fare to Newcastle, was around the old off peak return fare.

LNER have really put the prices up under the guise of "simplification".

Our ticket booking site will find cheaper deals if you don't mind losing flexibility.

But there is no way to get the sort of flexibility that you got before, at the price you paid before.

DfT wants to roll this out across the network, sadly.
