Glasgow > Rhyl via York

Good afternoon!! First time posting so please be gentle...

I have to plan a journey from Glasgow (or Easterhouse) on 12th February after 17.00 traveling to York where I am overnighting and then continuing to Rhyl after 16.30 on 13th February. On the 14th February, I will be returning to Glasgow from Rhyl after 16.30. Is it possible to have to have recommendations as to the best ticketing approach?

It will be an adult with no railcard.

As regards "best", that partly depends on your preferences: do you simply mean cheap, or does flexibility (or some other consideration) also matter?

If you are happy using "Advance" tickets (i.e. tickets valid only on the train(s) specified at the time of booking), you are likely to get the price down by doing the following:

use new.trainsplit.com to look for ticket options for Glasgow-York for the 12th: it will give you prices from £22.50 for that evening - probably around £28 for travelling at your preferred time: the particular option I saw would involve buying an Advance ticket for Glasgow-Darlington and (on the same train) for Darlington-York.

For the 13th, I suspect you will get the price down by looking for a cheap York-Warrington Bank Quay ticket (from £20 for an Advance), and then buying a Warrington-Rhyl offpeak return at £19.70: this return ticket is a key part of the price advice.

For the 14th, if you got the 1644 from Rhyl to Warrington (arriving 1749), there are cheap Advances on the 1827 from Warrington to Glasgow.

Something along the lines suggested would come to around £85.
