i am a motor mechanic to trade with 13 years experience and currently finishing up a year long course in HNC Manufacturing engineering.

What are my chances of getting a job on the rails as a technician/engineer?

My local depot would be polmadie.

There were just some apprenticeships for Engineering and Customer Service for ScotRail which have recently closed. I think there were two for engineering and one for customer service so sadly you may have missed them by now. If not ScotRail then maybe FOC's maybe looking for engineers not too sure. With the railways everything is online so checking their websites is your best option. Phoning them and E-Mailing them gets you no-where as I know through experience. For the most part it is a waiting game.

DirectRailServices(DRS) Have a few depots in and around Glasgow as well as a larger one in Carlisle. Again looking at the careers section of the company's websites is your best bet. I myself have signed up to all the TOC's and FOC's job alerts and regularly check their websites for any new vacancies. DRS post a few vacancies on their Official Facebook page so it may even be worth following Rail Company's on social media as they often post advertisements and such on their social media.
