Glasgow Queen Street - Ticket Collection

I've just booked tickets to Newcastle for this coming Saturday, in the past I've always booked far enough ahead to have them sent 1st class post for free or bought at the station.

I'm leaving from Queen Street at 8.30am and have to collect my tickets at the station, is this just done in the main booking office by showing debit card used and reference number? Just wondering as I bought them through East Coast (travelling Scotrail to Edinburgh then East Coast to Newcastle) and have East Coast seat reservations, but obviously East Coast have no staff/offices at Queen Street it's only Scotrail?

Can I pick them up when I am in Queen Street later on today rather than having to get to the station early on Saturday?

Yes you can collect before Saturday, generally 2 hours after you make the booking, but i'm under the understanding you can go to any ticket machine that you can collect tickets from, so you could go to glasgow central, just go to the virgin ticket machine, select the collect ticket option, put your card in, then put your reference in.

I'll be using Queen Street later, do they have machines I can get the tickets from or do I have to go to a manned counter in the ticket office?

Glasgow Queen Street is listed as one of the stations where you can collect tickets that have been booked online, from a ticket vending machine at the station; you'll certainly need the debit/credit card that you booked with, and possibly also the reference number as well.

From my experience whenever I have booked tickets on line and intending to collect at station I have always been asked what station I want to collect tickets from. Again from my experience the station defaults to where you want your journey to start , in your case Queen Street but you can select any station with a ticket machine. You can normally pick up tickets after 2hours so today will be fine. I am sure someone will correct me if I am wrong!!

And you can collect from any station with TOD, irrespective of whether you chose it or not.

Kind of been answered above but the guy down my local station is a nice bloke and when I asked him where in Queen Street I pick them up he just took my card and booking reference and printed them off for me from his machine.

Why does the system ask you what station you want to collect the tickets from if you can collect from any TOD station anyway?

I believe it is so you don't try to collect them from any station (there are some which dont support TOD) . Not many people know you can collect anywhere.
