Thanks for sharing your videos, I use Queen Street a lot when I'm back home and I was wondering how the works were going.
Glad I found this site today :)

Alistair

Welcome to Railfurums UK, Alistair! There's a lot of interesting discussion on here, and links to some great photos and videos.

Queen Street Works videos are now all accessible at the one link: vimeo.com/album/3924767

Previous individual links should still work.

Another update showing the latest progress up to 28th April has been uploaded this morning: https://vimeo.com/164683517

Sorry if anyone was inconvenienced when I updated the previous link.
That's the correct one quoted above now.

For anyone interested there is now a viewing area cut out the hoarding to see what's going on. Near the toilets.

Noted - thanks for that, scotraildriver!

Thanks for all your videos Pax, very good stuff.

Some new photos available from Network Rail on Twitter as well:

40 days of the project gone. 100 to go.

Very pleasing to see some of the actual track slab foundation going in. Feels like progress is happening.

Thanks for posting that - I hadn't seen their video on the tunnel work which is linked on their Twitter feed.

This photo of the viewing area appeared tonight on RailScot. Looks like the position has been chosen so that you can't see much through it :)

EDIT: Another view through the wee window posted this morning.

03/05/16 Another video update posted today: see https://vimeo.com/album/3924767

I notice seem to have bored this thread to death

When things are going to plan, there's not much to talk about. I could start going on about the need for a cross-city tunnel again, but I don't see that making much a difference.

This thread will only leap into life if something goes disastrously wrong. So long as it proceeds fairly efficiently we'll all sit here in silence ??????.

Thanks for that - I'll give it a try:

[vimeo]http://www.vimeo.com/164169513[/vimeo]

Aah - doesn't seem to work. I'll try to find out more about it.

The forum doesn't seem to have the vimeo tag... The youtube tag on other bbforums just has the code and not the URL between the tags.

I'll try the embed code again, though last time all the code just appeared as text:
EDIT: No, same again - I've removed all that stuff in the interests of tidiness.

On another topic, I see there's a time lapse video of the station works taken from near the entrance to the tunnel now playing on a monitor at the viewing window. I had a look for it online, but can't find it yet.

I signed up for email updates from ScotRail on the Queen Street Works and received the the first one yesterday. The introductory blurb was not too informative:
Thanks for signing up to receive updates about the enhancements being carried out in Glasgow Queen Street tunnel through ScotRail Golden Ticket. The £60m renovation project has really started to gather pace, and engineers are on site around-the-clock. In fact, when the tunnel reopens in August, our team will have worked more than half a million hours to renew 1,800m of concrete slab track and install more than 4,000m of new rails.

Thank you for bearing with us during this time. The work we're carrying out in the tunnel, combined with the electrification of key routes and the wider redevelopment of Queen Street station, will deliver significant and ongoing benefits for you for decades to come such as faster, longer and greener trains.

Look out for more exciting prizes coming up in the next few months – you could be the lucky winner of a weekend in New York or a Raymond Weil watch.

but perhaps all the interesting technical stuff is in the attached graphic

See the work that has been complete (sic) in the infographic below:

Err, no it's not.

Some lovely shots again on the Network Rail twitter feed:

Rail now laid on the new track slab:

Recognisable platforms starting to appear:

Base slab has made it to the north end of the tunnel:

Nearing the half way point of work in the tunnel. Half way point time wise is next weekend so by that unscientific measure it looks like they are about on schedule.

So pardon my ignorance -when do the electrification thingys go in - are they last of all?
I would have expected so, but that looks like an electrification thingy at the crown of the tunnel mouth in the last picture.

I really hope so - NR and the electrification programme have had some bad press so anything of that nature would be a real boost.

Up in scotland it all appears good though, the winchburgh work was to time and generally the electrification has been going well that i have seen.

Not specifically to do with the Queen Street tunnel works, but this just happened at the George Square entrance to Queen Street High Level, luckily no-one was hurt:

That is actually part of the Millennium Hotel - the extension which is due to be demolished soon - but luminaires for the station entrance are unlikely to be their responsibility.

Update video: Steelwork for OHLE beginning to appear at the station throat:
latest update
Video series

Sorry it won't embed.

EDIT 26/05/16:
Not so folks I'm afraid - it's a signal gantry. That's what you get when you ask people who work there

Network Rail put this out on Twitter today:

NetworkRailGQS ‏@NetworkRailGQS

Work behind scaffolds on East & West sides is for gantry brackets. Signal gantry will span width of Stn #QSTunnel

Given the green crane in use (see video 7) I would have thought it would be one of the last things overwise it makes the loading and unloading equipment and materials from the bridge more difficult and it would become another obstacle to be avoided.

The bits that can be fitted will be. Long way to go yet though before any wiring. The platforms need to be extended first.

The biggest job, as with all electrification, is the mast/portal foundations, and they're going in at the same time as the platform extensions. The steelwork itself shouldn't take more than a couple of days to install at the end of the project, though it'll depend on getting it delivered and craned down, or delivered by train.

Will the station itself be electrified while the tunnel is closed?

According to the Network Rail GQS Twitter, yes:

Conductor bar electrification system will be installed through #QSTunnel during this work. Also electrification in station
https://twitter.com/NetworkRailGQS/status/720341259521499136

We'll use conductor bar system to electrify through #QSTunnel It & #EGIP pltfm extensions will be during this work
