Glasgow Queen Str to Fort William Return

I've just noticed - on the National Rail website if you search for a journey from GLQ to FTW, outward today (or whenever) and the return portion on a different day, it's showing that a return is £29.
However at the bottom it says it's a "Off-Peak Day Return".

So is this a mistake on the NR website?

Thoughts? Can I use this as a non-day-return? (also - why would you want a day return to somewhere that's a 4hr journey each way (and only has as many trains each day)? )

CDR is the code for an Off-Peak Day Return so that ticket is only valid on the day of issue (and until 0429 the next day) as for why you'd want one? I believe that there is some commuting/leisure travel on the line and four hours is the same as Edinburgh - London and some people do day trips even on that distance (admittedly not many but there will be some).

I notice that the return portion isn't valid on all trains, as you would expect with a 'normal' off-peak return.

The same ticket doesn't seem to show up as an option on the ScotRail journey finder. I guess NR's is broken.

Ahem - guilty. Regular day trips from Glasgow to Mallaig, Kyle, London (and nearly did Wick - that wisely become an overnighter).
And of Inverness, Aberdeen, Oban and the above mentioned Ft William are all quite common day returns from here.

I notice that the return portion isn't valid on all trains, as you would expect with a 'normal' off-peak return.

On the dates I selected, NRE only lists the off-peak day return as being valid if you use the sleeper on the way back, although it does allow connections.

The anytime ticket is valid on any service, and you can use any train it lists on the way back on the same day, so I think it has become confused by the sleeper somehow.

None of the booking sites I've checked are affected by this, anyway.
