I asked this question in the past, unfortunately it doesn't come up on the search function.

Perhaps not relevant now, but there were the early 70's push/pull services introduced between Queen St and Waverley which consisted of 6 MkIIs and a Class 27 either end which were in turn, replaced by the Class 47-hauled rakes utilising a DBSO. I remember the 47-hauled sets used to fit comfortably in platforms 2 and 3, and I think, 6 and 7 too.
I am sure I read somewhere that platforms 6 & 7 could take longer trains.
I found a report on line (probably TfS) outlining how QS could be rebuilt.
With the recently revised EGIP scheme (now no increase on 4 TPH), longer trains are proposed.
Something I can quote with certainty is Modern Railways August 2012;
'As part of it's redevelopment, Queen St High level stations platforms are to be lengthened further than in its original EGIP plans, to accomodate 8-Car trains'
But you probably knew that anyway!
