What units do Scotrail use on these services? Is it worth paying for 1st Class?

Class 170s quite often in multiple so 2 x 170.

First Class is worth it through the peaks as it can get very busy

As Anvil says first class is only really worth it in the peaks to guarantee a seat. Off-peak there isn't really any point as the journey's just under an hour and there aren't many perks to first class in a 170. All you get is a bigger seat and complementaries off the trolley (and perhaps a power socket not sure).

Only at weekends, I believe the upgrade sits at £3.40
