I’ve tried to use our Forum Planner but clearly the options I want are perhaps too exacting? I plan to leave Lenzie and head to any London terminal on 08/02. I want to return on 11/02 and have a break of journey at York (for a possible Forum meet) and continue home on 13/02.

The options I select seem to prefer single journeys with no break permitted, or Lumo which doesn’t stop at York! Can anyone suggest how I might achieve this (with an Off Peak Return?) as the permutations are driving me nuts!

Isn't a £170.40 Off Peak Return (no railcard discount assumed) from Lenzie to 'London Terminals' (route Any Permitted) not still valid via for a multi-day break of journey at York on the way back to Central Scotland?

Or is the issue something to do with the 'requirement' for pseudo-compulsory seat reservations?

With my SR I can get it to around £100 but only on the ScotRail site - it’s because the Forum’s site shoves Lumo into the mix… which is no use if you want to visit the NatRail Museum and Locomotion on the return leg!

Can you not specify 'via York'?

It doesn’t matter on the outbound - and I like the idea of WCML out and ECML back! If I specify York, that’ll force ECML only!

Second idea: the forum booking engine has an option to exclude specific TOCs - i.e., exclude LUMO?

Have you tried just booking singles? Could work out cheaper. LNER's single leg pricing could also be why you are having problems?

Aren't Avanti West Coast the price setter for walk up Lenzie -> London Terminals tickets?

Doesn't the forum ticket site have the option of only forcing a "via" point on one leg of the journey?

Absolutely; you can specify different requirements for outward & return portions.

However what you can't do is specify a break for 2 days, but that applies to any website!

Booking Advance singles: Glasgow > London £30.45 London > York £69.70 York > Lenzie £16.55 comes out at £116.70 (and I would have to skip Locomotion unless I added a further break.

I couldn’t find how to manage this on the return leg alone - it was ECML for both. Any LNER tickets all defaulted to Singles, so no Off-Peak Return flexibility. ScotRail will let me specify an OPR for £112.45, but I cannot seem to do this on RailUK after 2 hours of searching!

All I had to do was select "flexible" but to get reservations to your taste you need in "more options" to unselect "use these options for return" and put in a via point or two. I also used your midweek date for the return to avoid any engineering works complicating ticketing.

Thank you so much - I followed your suggestions and I got the journey I needed! No discount on the ScotRail pricing (it was identical) but at least I can support the Forum’s ticket partner!
