Glasgow - Liverpool Wed 24th April

I got an Advance Single ticket ages ago. The Virgin trains seat reservation covers up to Preston. However is I stay on the Virgin train until Wigan North Western it's an easier change with the opportunity to take a break. I catch the same Northern Rail service from Preston but at Wigan if I do it the way I want.
Question is is it permitted ? The route in both cases is identical.

Strictly speaking no, but if you ask the guard when he comes around to check tickets, I doubt he will say no.

I'll second that. You'll have no issues alighting at Wigan instead of Preston (based on the knowledge of my collegues at VT)
