I am looking to get tickets for a GLC - LDS journey. Outward is Friday 8th Feb, arriving Leeds between 1200 and 1700. Return from LDS between 1100 and 1500. Dates cannot be changed. I don't have / not entitled to a railcard.

Without splitting the best I've come up with so far is £39 return: 0840 GLC - 1255 LDS (£22) and 1353 LDS - 1803 GLC (£17).

I have looked at splitting at Carlisle, but the journey onwards to Leeds is pricier. I could split at Preston: 0840 GLC - 1056 PRE (£10) and 1110 PRE - 1309 LDS (£11). But returns offer no saving, so as above for return. A saving of a £1 isn't worth it.

Any other suggestions for splitting or am I being greedy?

You don't say what date you are returning.

If you want some flexibility on your times then choose to go via Appleby and an Anytime Return is £52.50. You can purchase this ticket on the day of travel, so if your plans change you won't be out of pocket.

Ooops, sorry. Returning the following day, Saturday 9th February.

Yes, I had seen the £52.50 fare, thanks. Hopefully flexibility shouldn't be an issue, unless I have one too many on Friday night;)
