I have just been asked a question by my parents. They are coming down from Glasgow for the FA trophy final at Wembley on Saturday. They will travel down Friday night. They have one car. My mum is at Perth on Friday during the day and my step dad is at work in Paisley. They need to meet up as Mum doesnt want to drive accross Glasgow twice in Friday night traffic!

the question therefore is where can my step dad get the train to, south or east of Glasgow, to meet up with my mum and the car! How am i supposed to answer that! The meeting location must be close to a motorway to save on journey times! Any help appreciated! over to you:D

nice one - i was hoping for Caldercruix or somewhere obscure!

I dont know glasgow well yet so couldnt really think of anywhere except Motherwell or Hamilton which i only know from going to the match!

Hamilton would be okay too, though i'm not keen on the road system there, it seems to get a little more jammed up! Bellshill isn't too far either, but lacks parking around the station. Caldercruix is pretty far away! Larkhall isn't a bad shout either come to think of it.

Your Mum is thinking sensibly here! I wouldn't go near the M8 on a Friday night unless absolutely necessary!

You're thinking along the right lines I would say. Your Mum will be coming down the M73 and onto the M74. Your Step Dad, coming from Paisley, will probably want to change at Central. So you're looking at somewhere to the South East of Glasgow. Undoubtedly the best interchange is going to be Motherwell. Your Mum can come off the M74 for a few minutes and be back on with minimal hassle. Your Step Dad can get any train going to Lanark or Motherwell; easy enough for someone who may not know the intricacies of the Argyle Line! Hamilton isn't bad either; the roads in both towns are no worse than each other IMO. But there's less likely to be problems at Motherwell IMO.

A more unusual option (if you want something like that!) would be Whifflet. Your Mum can come off the A80 at Auchenkilns junction, go through to Coatbridge via Glenmavis, pick your Step Dad up from Whifflet station, then down the A725 and onto the M74 from there. It gets your Mum out of the A/M80 roadworks a lot quicker, but it's probably more complex for someone who may not know the area. I know it's not Motorway, but it won't be much/any longer given the roadworks. Plus, there's better parking at Whifflet than Motherwell.

I'd recommend Motherwell personally.

Here's a map for her route via Motherwell (recommended)

Despite not being on the Motorways for Whifflet, you can see that there's not much in it.
