Glasgow help please

Hi all I am travelling to Glasgow and Stirling next Wednesday

Last time I was there back in March just as the Covid virus started almost every shop on the stations in Glasgow and Edinburgh were not accepting cash they were only accepting card payments

Is this still the case or should I take a packed lunch ?

Well WHSmith took cash when I bought a paper and couldn't find my card last week. If you are really stuck there is a Sainsbury's and Tesco across the road and both definitely take cash if necessary, simply card payments preferred.

Cheers mate for your reply , I was hoping places like upper crust , pumpkin West Cornwall pasty shop would take cash as they only accepted card payments in March when it first began but will go Sainsbury’s if weather is decent but fancy a hot pasty or something if weather is not good

There is not Pumpkin or West Cornwall pasty in Glasgow Central and the Upper crust along with the other SSP venues are shut. There is a Pret , WH Smith and Boots open.

Sainsburys is just outside across Gordon St, Two Tescos and a COOP nearby too.

Greggs on the corner and the Blue Lagoon Chippy.

Out of interest why dont you use your card?

Burger King is also shut on Central station - there's loads in the vicinity of the station though as said above (and even more if you wander a bit further)

All the supermarket chains plus WHSmith certainly do, I can't vouch for the food chains inside Central station though.

BK and M & s are still shut I think the Costa is open along with the Pret.

I think i recall the Cornwall Pasty was in one of the huts under the departure board along with Starbucks. Now the right hut is the scotrail info booth.

Tbh I didn't really pay much attention to what was open last time in was in Central I was literally just using it to catch trains!

To be honest just before Covid lockdown I went to Edinburgh via Glasgow , on arrival at Glasgow Queen Street Station I went to a coffee stall on the concourse ( forgot what name it was ) ordered a coffee as I was parched she said because of the situation they are not accepting cash I apologised and said no problem as I turned away to go for the train she gave me my coffee for free and with a smile

That was a kind and nice gesture and I thanked her however on arrival at Edinburgh Waverley only WHS accepted cash nothing else did had to go McDonald’s for a brew and a bite which I’m not keen on

So hoping for the best for Wednesday thanks to your help

I think SSP( Select Service Partners, before someone goes about the polictical party) had some issues. The BK is still closed though.

Yes by Network Rail. SSP run M&S, Upper Crust, the pub and the delice de france place. I thught they were putting a Wetherpoons in above the boots .

Best grub within a couple of hundred yards of Central is the Italian place on the corner. Think it’s called Via Italia

Went once, was ok. They were in the local rag for the treatment of staff. They had another outlet on Sauchiehall St, that shut when there was fire.

When you’re tight for time and the alternative seems to be cold takeaway food, Burger King or Tim Martin’s Brexit Bar it wins. I thought it was really nice

It's called the Blue Lagoon fish restaurant. Fitted with a rather large extractor fan, at great expense which is not used.
