Hello - my wife is heading to Stirling tomorrow - from our local station Hyndland (north clyde electric).

using BRFares.com, I can see that off peak day return Glasgow to Stirling is valid after 0915 - with no evening peak restriction.

I can also see that off peak day return Hyndland to Glasgow is valid after 9am - with no evening peak restriction.

However, the slightly easier purchase, but slightly more expensive ticket - the off peak day return from Hyndland to Glasgow is not valid during the evening peak to complete the journey back to Hyndland. Code H1. Can't join a train from Glasgow QS between 1642 and 1811.

Seems a bit daft? Presumably wouldn't be enforced? Just an anomaly as it is meant for those who then go to use the E&G?

thanks in advance.
Kevin

I think you mean Stirling?

It isn't an easier purchase if you are using a website like Trainsplit* as it'll be all one transaction regardless of the number of tickets then ;)

Train companies like Scotrail are reluctant to offer these savings to customers and would prefer you to pay a higher fare for the apparent 'convenience' of a through ticket.

Every year these amounts add up to £millions of additional fares paid by passengers over and above the cost of valid tickets that would have sufficed; you only identified a small saving but many journeys have savings well into double figures.

Yes it is daft and it is almost certain not to be enforced, as gateline staff are looking for trains that display the erroneous message "THIS IS A PEAK TRAIN" on the departure boards.

However they could enforce it if they wanted to, in which case the convenience of a through fare will be costing you rather more than £1.20* extra as you'd be excessed up to the SDR at £15.60.

I'd stick with the combination of tickets if I were you. Don't give Scotrail more money and an excuse to charge you even more on top!

* With Trainsplit the fare would be a £1.17 saving, as Trainsplit finds a combination of tickets that saves £1.30 and passes on 90% of that saving to you.

Yes - sorry - I meant Hyndland to Stirling.

Thanks very much. Good advice as always.
