Glasgow Central PA Tone

Can anyone remember when the PA tone at 20:03 in the video below ceased to exist?

I don't recall any other station in the UK using it, seemed to be specific to Central only.

Also the PA tone at Glasgow Queen Street has disappeared in the last few years, when did that happen?

I'm sure I've heard the same tone at other WCML stations in videos until at least the early 2000s, I'll see if I can match any.

That at Glasgow has been gone a while, I'm not sure if I can remember it personally, having heard it in videos but perhaps when they put in the DotMatrix boards would be when it went?

I'm having a look at QS videos online to see if I can find it. It was three electronic tones in the ascending order I believe.

The same channel as that video has a Queen Street one from the same period, there's also Soi Buakhao's excellent selection of videos, I think there are one or two 1980s Queen Street ones in there as well.

I only remember it at Central, unique and was begining to wonder if I'd imagined it as there are so few captures of it to be found on line. It used to reverberate around the trainshed and sounded quite out of worldly to me!

Both stations always had different tones. I just hadn't heard the QS one in awhile. Centrals tone has been gone for many years now i think.

I am well travelled on the UK network and never heard it anywhere else - it was unique to Glasgow Central.

The QS one seems a bit more generic and less distinctive so probably it was used elsewhere.

It's been there for a very long time. At least since the introduction of 158s.

That was late-1990 though to be fair. Watching one of the videos again though, it sounds like the same tones possibly as in that Queen Street video above, but it's difficult to tell over the engine noises!

I'll have another watch through tomorrow. I've got some old VHS programs filmed in the 90s at QS. Maybe they feature it.

The dot matrix boards went in around 2004 . I think the auto announcer did not come till 2009 though.

It was around 2009 the stopped that tone at Glasgow Central, and was replaced with a “bing-bong” before the PA system was replaced a year later.

The ‘dooo dooo doooooo’ PA tone used at Glasgow QS was introduced during the First ScotRail era (around 2005), but that was lost in 2014 when the PA system was too replaced.

I discovered this by accident at 0046.

this is the more familiar tone found in English stations, very strange, was this there in the 70s, I always assumed it was the other one featured in the above videos.
