Glasgow Central Low Level

Just watching Inside Central Station on Freeview Yesterday channel, and am puzzled as to how the low level platforms are accessed. I thought I knew the station quite well, but have never noticed any signage to get to the lower level part of the station. Is it even from the same main building?

I've even done the tunnel tour and seen the disused platforms, but no idea where the ones still in use are.

(It took me a while to find the same at Queen Street, but Central remains a mystery!)

The escalators at P11-15 take you down.

They are through the wall from the abandoned platforms.

something I hadn't really considered is that as the in-use island platform lies below Argyle street, there's a station level above the railway and below the street- much further between upper level and lower platforms at Central than at Queen Street, where the low level is very much directly under the high level platforms

What is often a real mind blower is that the platforms at Argyle Street station are almost directly beneath the street, with inadequate room to create a passenger walkway and maintain gauge, so in order to reach them you have to take an escalator which goes to a corridor under the tracks, then you enter the island platform by ascending into it.

It can also be accessed from an entrance under the “Hielanman’s Umbrella” with elevators down to the corrider to the low level platforms and elevators up to the high level concourse.

Three street level entrances really, one by the lifts from/into Hope Street, one by the escalators onto one side of Argyle Street and a steps only entrance on the opposite side as well.

Ta. I recognise the one on the opposite side (don’t think i have ever used it) but could you explain the Hope Street one.. Is that the lifts onto the Central Station concourse?

The Hope Street entrance is directly across from the Yotel on the other side of the street.

Yeah, lies just benneth the street, you can hear the trains and feel them if its quiet.

Further down the street, it's literally just after Argyle Street and the so-called Hielanman's Umbrella. The lift up to the upper level is literally just inside this entrance to the left.

Isn't Anderston the same with the platforms being more or less directly underneath the street? But they had enough wiggle room to create steps straight down to the platform rather than going under then up.

What I do find mind blowing is how long it takes to walk from Glasgow Central to Anderston, it seems to take longer than to Argyle Street when you can see the daylight reflecting off the trains when they curve round into Anderston when viewed from Central Low Level.

Not been able to see Anderston from Central Low Level, will check next time. Only seen the lights of Argyle from Central.

It's not so much being able to see the station itself, but I've noticed when a Westbound Argyle Line train curves away towards Anderson, you can see the daylight reflecting off of the side.
