Last updated: Friday, 17 July 2026 at 13.00.The Gordon Street and Union Street entrances to Glasgow Central station have both reopened following the fire in early March that brought the station to a standstill for a number of days.

Some ScotRail services to resume at Glasgow Central High Level as station partially reopens from Wednesday (18 March), following the significant fire on Union Street.
Platforms seven to 15 on the west side of the station will be back in use from the start of service on Wednesday.
We'll run as many services as possible, but with a reduced number of platforms available, and limited entry and exit points for customers, this will not allow for the return of trains on all routes that normally operate.

From the start of service on Wednesday, the following will operate:​

• Ayr and Glasgow Central – a half hourly service, calling at all stations between Paisley Gilmour Street – Kilwinning (Johnstone / Milliken Park / Howwood / Lochwinnoch / Glengarnock / Dalry).
• Gourock and Glasgow Central – an hourly service, calling at all stations.
• Wemyss Bay and Glasgow Central – an hourly service, calling at all stations.
• Kilmarnock and Glasgow Central – a half hourly service, calling at all stations (integrated with normal Carlisle/South Ayrshire services).
• East Kilbride and Glasgow Central – a half hourly service.
• Lanark and Glasgow Central – an hourly service.

The partial re-opening of the station has been confirmed following comprehensive safety checks by Network Rail and Glasgow City Council, which has taken control of the site from the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service.
Public safety is the main priority with the demolition process ongoing, and an exclusion zone has been established by Glasgow City Council around the fire damaged building. Barriers have been erected inside the station marking the exclusion zone which limits customer access and movement.

Glasgow Central station entrances​

ScotRail staff will be on hand at Hope Street to guide and support customers to and from platforms.
This will include entry and exit for customers via an entrance on Hope Street, known as the carriage driveway, which is used during special events and is normally for vehicular access.

The following entrances to the station will remain closed:​

• Hope Street (adjacent to Waterloo Street).
• Gordon Street.
• Union Street.

Glasgow Central Low Level​

A full timetable of services at the low level platforms, which serve routes from Cumbernauld, Whifflet, Larkhall, and Motherwell to Dalmuir, Balloch, and Milngavie, resumed on Wednesday, 11 March, and they will continue to operate.

In addition to the above, the following services are still affected​

The following routes are currently not operating:

• Edinburgh – Glasgow Central via Shotts/Carstairs
• Glasgow Central – Cathcart Circle
• Glasgow Central – Paisley Canal
• Glasgow Central – Newton
• Glasgow Central – Barrhead
• Glasgow Central – Neilston
• Glasgow Central – Ardrossan South Beach/Harbour

Altered services​

The following routes are operating but with significant alterations:

• Glasgow – Largs: Operating only Largs - Kilwinning.
• Glasgow – Dumfries/Carlisle: Operating only Carlisle/Dumfries - Kilmarnock.
• Glasgow – Stranraer: Operating only Stranraer - Kilmarnock.

Refund information​

For customers who started their journey on Sunday, 8 March but were unable to continue, our Delay Repay compensation scheme is available.
Any customers who have a ticket but were unable to travel, can request a fee-free refund on unused tickets.

That's a good set of the longer distance suburban and Ayrshire/Renfrewshire routes. Selfishly, disappointed that the Catchcart lines aren't open, but that makes sense considering the coverage for other transport options, namely the buses and the bikes (which I used yesterday).

I will say that the loading at Clarkston and Giffnock could be huge if pulling in folk from Muirend, Williamwood and Whitecraigs.

No TPE and just one Avanti per hour.

Avanti are using P10 at Central for the hourly 1Mxx to London direct.
Most 9Mxx services (to London via Birmingham) start from Edinburgh, but there are 3 (widely spaced) from Motherwell.
TPE runs south of Carlisle, using Avanti to Glasgow/Edinburgh.

Ticket acceptance via the ECML (to Birmingham/London) is still in place.

Slightly confusing information on the NR site, suggesting the first train into the High level station will be the Sleeper from London. Which it was't.

The first arrival was actually the 0611 arrival from Kilmarnock, which was three minutes early so just nipped in before the 0610 from Gourock

So the Sleeper wouldn't have been first even if it had been going to Glasgow last night, as the whole train was booked to Edinburgh.

..... and was terminated at Crewe.

Trains are using their booked platforms.
Of course, some may be altered today due to engineering ops on the WCML
1136 Glasgow - Euston sits in P1 as I type.

1309 TPE used 3 which caused mild havoc (though the fast turnaround, going out on time despite coming in 20 late, was impressive, and could teach Avanti a thing or two). Not sure why when 1 and 2 were available.

The 1309 TPE is booked to use 3.

I presume it didn't use 1 or 2 because the Avanti arrival is normally due at 1305, though was 12 mins late arriving.
