Glasgow-Carlisle diversions

Hi

I will be on the 1422 Glasgow Central-Carlisle train (VTWC) on Friday. This runs via Kilmarnock, so I'm presuming also via Dumfries.

I have never done this line north of Dumfries so could anyone tell me what it's like for scenery?

Not as spectacular as the Caley route but pleasant, couple of big viaducts, plus IIRC some manual signalling, and both Kilmarnock and Dumfries stations are nice. South of D is flat but good views over to the Lake District fells if it's fine.
