Is it possible to use this train (in Switzerland) without booking some sort of package holiday?

As I am currently living in Munich, it would be a nice weekend trip.

Yes, no problem.

If you have a railpass such as the Swisspass, you only have to pay a supplement & make a reservation on the Glacier Express.
