I'll have to get my old job back then ....

£675 was something like 7 days work for me (shift premiums and bonuses included).

Does it look like you opinion matters ;)

All you sweaty northerners can stay firmly up north anyway ;)

Why oh why do I have to rep others when posts like these are just losing out on the rep they truly deserve. :(

How about a sleeper service? Fun part is when you don't wake up... ;)

It will be a weekend. So I should imagine it'll be cheaper to go SC and upgrade. Although technically, us priv thieves can't.

:D

...Definately not considered (nor considering) doing it in Cheshire or Merseyside.

Lancashire would be a good option as you could do first class on an adelantee even a 185 and you could save money too.

if it's anything like XC's unrefurb 170s were with decom. first class in the centre - pure luxury :D but I'd rather have proper first class!

What TOC offers proper FC on weekends though? On most Intercity TOC's its all self service.

Its a high speed train, better first class accommodation than most trains with 2+1 seating. (and not just plumped up standard class seats)

yeah - shame that. I'll admit I've only ever done 'proper' first class on weekday twice before, all the other times (too many to count) have either been on weekends or on TOCs that don't provide a proper service (NXEA 321s, FCC and LM for example). The 'proper' first class was pendos both times, and Virgin have a fantastic first class service monday-friday, and it's ALL free too.

ECML it is then!

But, from where to where?

Aberdeen runs are fantastic, plus a guaranteed HST! But a bit out of the way for most people :( I'd suggest from York to go North or South, as that's a nice central location. You could maybe do:

Code:
[U]STN ARR DEP[/U]
LDS xxxx 0710
ABD 1307 1449
YRK 2005 xxxx

Guaranteed HST, can't miss the connection in ABD, very light loadings north of Edinburgh, probably quite a few AP tickets, especially on the way up and a lovely ride.
