Well, that's going to depend on what the diagrams are in December 2009, as they might be changed by then. Who knows.

I'd do it if it was a Voyager or HST. Preference to the latter (those FC seats are nice! - and yes, I've sampled the refurbished FC seats, they're good) of course but I'd not flag the Voyager.

Glasgow to Penzance in First Class is bound to be expensive though, after all it's over 650 miles one way IIRC. One will have to see what the fares are closer to the time I suspect.

As for spending 12 hours on a HST, I've done York to Newquay and then back to Plymouth with 43054+058, that was a massive trip. Manchester Piccadilly to Newquay and back to Bristol Parkway is also a fair bit of a way. Mind, so is Cheltenham to Newquay and back...

Roll on December 2009 I say!

Anyway, in case we all decide Glasgow to Penzance is too expensive (factoring in moves to/from the meet, it's looking to cost me a mega fortune), how about a Kings Cross to Sunderland and back bash? Might be quite fun and we get some real seats, not to mention some awesome noise from both ends of the train

Well a FC single with GC from London to Sunderland weighs in at £67. I'm hoping they *may* do some AP fares in the near future to make things more attractive.

Can't see a FC return on the Mixing Deck.

EDIT: SC looks more appealing with GC there TBH, £45.55 for a Y-P GC Only Off Peak Return. Job done.

You can't get an Advance Glasgow-Penzance I don't think for some reason; you need either to split or pay the walk up fare (which is a cool £675 return).

I'd quite like a GC run from Sunderland TBH, even though it's a bit pricy.

A Via Bristol Anytime Return currently weighs in at a mega £304. Super OUCH!

No such thing as an AP from Glasgow to Penzance eh? We'll see about that...

EDIT: For some reason, I cannot get any AP fares from Glasgow to Penzance even on dates supposedly selling APs for in March 2009. Odd. But an Off Peak Return Via Bristol for the same route, with Y-P, is showing as £122.35 for Standard Class travel.

Currently the Weekend First upgrade is £10 each way. With a £122.30 RCD return fare, it would come to a massive £142.30 for the bash. And that's obviously not including moves to/from the meet or overnight accommodation!

Be prepared to split your fare several times then, since there is no such thing as a Glasgow to Penzance through AP. I'd imagine it would need to be a Glasgow to Newcastle, Newcastle to Bristol and Bristol to Penzance.

EDIT: Glasgow to York FC singles, again with Y-P, start at £17.65. York to Bristol Temple Meads from £18.80 for FC, same for Bristol Temple Meads to Penzance. Which brings it to a massive £55.25 for combo FC APs. And that's assuming you get the lowest fare ones on the train of choice. These singles were not available on any direct service I could find coming back up north, but were going south. And I'm looking for stuff in early March. Crazy.

Nor would I. And after my recent Scottish 3-day MegaFest, I doubt I could cope with 7 or 14 days on the trot without some proper sleep every couple of nights. I'd probably make it with just doss here there and everywhere, but that wouldn't be enjoyable.

Would be absolutely hellfire, except I doubt all of us could put up with each other after the first couple of days. We'd all start picking on other people's character flaws, then the traction conflicts would come into play...
