Getting work on the railways (live in Derby)

Checking their careers pages and seeing if they're hiring in the Derby area would be a good place to start. After that if you find something you'd like to apply for I'm sure the people here would be more than happy to help out if we can.
Well, I already made two job applications, one been more ambitious, Trainee Senior Conductor with LM, and PT/ Travel Advisor for either Chesterfield and/or Sheffield, both closed last Friday, so waiting to see if I here back from those.
I am also going to apply for a cleaning job on XC I think, just for the sake of getting me into the industry. I am thinking if I end up with that, I think I will use it to enable to apply internally for positions I prefer.
Do you know how long it would take for me to hear back if I am successful?

I started as a customer host and so did a few of my friends. We all saw it as a step into the industry and its exactly what it was. From there its up to you. I fell lucky and was told to apply for positions and have had a great career so far moving on to work on the depot, I've done so many different jobs. My friend went as a chef, then conductor, driver and has just moved on to DRS. So my advice is do what you're doing and get in there however you can and then your future is what you make of it. I've never looked back

It took a while, probably about a month to 6 weeks. I'd given up hope by that point. I think because of the volume of applicants it takes a while.

I wouldn't rule out Birmingham either. Derby is certainly a big railway town, but there is more work in Birmingham and it's definitely commutable.

Derby & Birmingham are both centers for Network Rail. Much better than faffing about with trains and stuff

If you've got previous planning or disgramming experience you might want to apply to Tracsis in Derby.

I had an interview there earlier this year but didn't quite have enough experience in that particular field. I think there are a number of other rail contractor type firms in the Pride Park area as well.
