Dont you notice the newer the locomotive the uglier it gets. (... bla bla etc ...)
My dear Klambert, if you're trying to suggest that there is some kind of "law" that says "the newer the locomotive, the uglier the design", then you are very wrong ;) Whether someone likes a design or not is just a matter of taste. We all know one can't argue about taste!

I like the Bombardier TRAXX, and the DB Br 101, to name two examples. But I also like the look of the HST, and 37s.

I think the reason why many people seem to think they look 'American' is because they were built in Canada for use on both British and European metals - hence why many people think they look foreign.

In terms of American looking locomotives the class 14 shunter, and class 15 diesels also look 'foreign' to me. Dont ask why!!

The Germans have the best looking locomotives even there modern high speed trains the ICE looks good. A lot of our high speed trains look ugly such as the pedelinos the voyagers and the new FGW locos what ever they are they are all ugly apart from the class 43.

I heard a female say, "I think the railways are very pretty at the moment!" Yeah - with all the different liveries there are today, the rollong stock looks quite nice

Incidentally - when it comes down to a particular class looking good or bad - they're all a pain in the ass when it comes to finding your last one!

Are you implying that you didn't like the GNER eurostars? I liked them......

No not at all! The Eurostars are tremendous, never better than in that livery in my view. I was comparing the first two pictures of old units being ugly as hell and the second two being two of the best looking, in my opinion.

I must admit I like the Stagecoach livery it seems to suit anything that gets it.
On the MML I think the Meridians look really smart.
The Wessex Electrics certainly looked slick in it.

It's funny how the 450's have grown on everyone because when I first started driving them in April 2004 not many people liked them.

I didn't mind them myself but I do remember moaning to a Fratton Driver when I had worked down to Portsmouth, about the brakes and the driver I talked to saying he had no problems.Although at the time I didn't get on them much.

Whilst I agree that the old units are rather hard on the eye, the Networkers aren't exactly graceful either, in my opinion. The Eurostars though, I'll give you.
