HI all

I wondered if anyone can help. My son would love to see The Orient Express. Does anyone know if it is possible to get up close to it before it's trips from London Victoria etc. without a ticket for the journey.

Thanks

Tom

It usually departs form platform 2 at Victoria. If you have a platform or travel ticket there's no reason why you shouldn't be able to get onto the island platform that includes 1 and 2 (service trains still use 1 while the Belmond British Pullman, as it's now called, is there). Bear in mind that those trips which are steam-hauled are likely to attract considerably more people than the diesel-hauled ones. Their web site will tell you which is which.

If the ticket barriers are shut (sometimes they are just left open and unattended) just ask the staff working at the ticket barriers to let you through. You don't need to buy a ticket. Most staff don't mind letting people through to see these trains. There is also a side gate on Platform 2 (which is almost always the platform that is used for the Orient Express) that always seems to be left open whenever the Orient Express is at London Victoria.
