What time tomorrow do Rail staff start to head back into work after the Christmas shutdown?

ive always wanted to know is it a easy thing to get trains up and running after the christmas shutdown and will trains be in the right place to start tomorrow?

i take it that Signal staff would be the 1st back on Duty?

just how does it all work?

Some signal staff will still be on duty on Christmas day for engineering work trains.

As for other areas, for a normal working day there'll be staff in the depots (not including cleaning staff) for very early in the morning, say around 3-4am. Depends which area of the country and which TOC.

There are still railway staff at work over Christmas - plenty of engineering going on and of course crews and signallers for the necessary engineers' trains.

Signal staff and some drivers have been on duty all over Christmas. It's just passenger services that have been shut down, with station staff, guards and catering having time off. TOC controls will have been staffed.

Cleaners and shunter's will be at work tonight, doing the usual sorting out.

I shall be in work well before 06:00 tomorrow morning at my normal booked time. I expect the depot staff will be in tonight marshalling and preparing the trains ready for us to collect them first thing.

I can only speak for Chester but Boxing Day night will be a normal night shift minus the cleaning staff. There will have been at least two members of staff on site since everything was stabled in the early hours of Christmas Day.

As many units as possible will have been left on shore supply and the others will have been started every few hours. They will all be given a prep by a driver well before departure time to make sure everything works.
