How does one get Priv loaded onto an Oyster card? My friend is a driver but entered before privatisation so has protected (pre 1994) status. What does he need to do to get his discount? He said it should be something like 75%. He doesn't have an Oyster card yet but would he be able to buy one from a LU ticket office, show his TOC ID and RSTL Priv Card and get it loaded there and then?

Thanks

Sounds like it's the first issue, then this (http://www.atoc.org/download/client...015/Form_1519_TfL_PAYG Oyster Pass 010115.doc) form must be completed and submitted to the employing company's staff travel department.

Renewals can be done by staff at LU stations, not sure whether TfL centres, Lorol or TfL Rail can do it or not, but I'd have thought so.

Yes, its a first issue - he's never had an Oyster card before. So he just fills this form in and returns it to Northern?

Does he need to buy a normal Oyster card first and will they issue one later? He doesn't yet have an Oyster and is just using Contactless as is seldom in London.

My manager signed my completed form and I then handed it in at a LU ticket office with payment and was issued with a PRIV oyster card loaded with the appropriate amount. I top up the amount at the machines at most LU stations.

I had to show my work ID / PRIV card to get my PRIV oyster.

The procedure changed either last year or the year before. Forms now have to be sent to Rail Staff Travel to be authorised. It should also be noted that Active staff can generally apply directly to RSTL, rather than going through their Employer, thereby cutting out the middle man.

Remember to update your oyster card each year with your new staff travel card or you loose the 75% discount. Any competant Tfl staff can do this at any top up machine when you show your new card.

Yes, when a new priv card arrives each year, it's just a matter of getting the new card's expiry date entered on your Oyster card; you don't need to go back to your staff office, or fill a form in each year.

It used to take just seconds at a LUL ticket office; now of course you do it at a machine instead, but you'll need a member of staff to help you.

Feedback from customers is that, off-peak, it's even quicker at the machines than it was at the offices. Takes me ~30 seconds to load a PRIV, slightly longer if first issue. ;)

Same goes for railcards and other discounts.

To answer a question further up: TfL VCs, LOROL stations and TfL Rail stations should all be able to add PRIV (and other discounts), but feedback has suggested that many will refuse.

You helped me out with a similar situation in another thread. Member of staff was not bothered about the form when he loaded my STC onto a (new) Oyster Card for the first time yesterday at Tottenham Hale. If they took the form in, it'll probably end up getting stuffed into their pocket or lost before the end of their shift. At least ticket offices could keep them and presumably send them somewhere with other paperwork.

One thing to bear in mind is I saw three options on the menu - TfL Rail, All Rail and All Rail-N. Not sure what the latter means, but my first attempt yesterday only TfL Rail was loaded on. After a journey from Tottenham Hale to Stratford (direct) earlier today, I ended up getting charged full price. However, a helpful member of staff at Stratford changed the reduction correctly to All Rail. Coming back the same way, it correctly discounted the fare.
