Many of the places already mentioned in this thread are guard operated.
Burnham Bucks changed shortly after DOO was brought in. LNER routes have been mentioned often, I presume that the driver releases doors on those just like on other 80x.

German trains got a mention. I haven't ever been on one that split. I imagine that is such an unusual happening that it's no surprise that passengers rush about in confusion.

What DB used to do (and I think in some places still do) was provide a printed notice somewhere mid platform which showed exactly where every coach of every IC and ICE train calling at that platform would be stopping. Only possible, of course by not indulging in the UK practice of regular platform switching.

Thinking back to recent trips from Frankfurt Airport's Fernbahnhof, I recall the platform indicators doing the same job, ie showing where each coach of the next train would stop.

It’s not that unusual. ICE services from Berlin to the Ruhr routinely (i.e. several times per day) split/join in Hamm to take different routes: this has been the practice for many years. At the other end of the speed scale, Hamburg S-Bahn services split/join at Ohlsdorf - one portion goes to the Airport. Yes, that’s an airport service that splits.
