Getting off at a station early?

Firstly sorry for the title I didn't know what to put.

Secondly, if I was getting a return from Bristol Temple Meads to Penarth am I allowed to get off early at Bristol Parkway? Would the barriers let me through if the ticket says Bristol Temple Meads and the same for going can I start from parkway?

Yes, that's perfectly fine. The barriers may or may not accept it depending on how they've been programmed but the ticket is valid so you can ask to be let through.
