Getting from Alicante to Benidorm by tram

Hello everyone, can anybody advise me of how to go about doing this. I'm staying in Alicante this weekend, and will be staying at a hotel opposite the main railway station. If anyone knows the tram number to get to Benidorm, where to get it from, and how much a day return is, it would be appreciated. There will be four of us, so if there is a multi-person ticket option, I'd like to know about that also.

That website is very out of date! Since then the line has been extended to run underground right into the middle of Alicante and the narrow gauge trains replaced with modern trams. I think since I was there, the line has been extended again to run right into the RENFE station.

I found it very straightforward to use (I speak no Spanish) and it was very reasonable. The only mistake I made was taking a slow train which stopped everywhere as opposed to the non-stopper that overtook us and does the journey in about half the time.

I didn't explore the line beyond Benidorm to Denia although this looks as if it would be the most interesting and is still worked by railcars.

Very interesting little trip - typical narrow gauge line twisting and climbing along the coast and in some places you can still see the original station buildings etc.

Walk to Mercado station (5 min walk) and take a Line 1 tram to Benidorm, they run every half hour as I recall. Alternatively take a stroll down the promenade to Puerta Del Mar and take a Line 4 tram to La Isleta and change.

It's quite a long journey but the scenery is pretty good.
