Old laptop from 2009 has no power despite new battery purchase . Most photos were backed up to a red and black Sandisk crozier thing ...think it’s called a flash drive .
Is there a way of transferring the data onto any Apple device . I have done this with photos from my digital cameras using a special adaptor .
Any info appreciated

Is your laptop completely dead? Normally they can work from the power adapter even if the battery is toast. You have choices either way.

- Buy a USB adapter for iPad or iPhone, copy files from USB stick to device using Files app
- Login to iCloud Photos from laptop via browser, upload photos to there. Be aware you don't get much free iCloud storage..5GB I think
- Upload photos from laptop to Google Photos or Google Drive (or your cloud storage of choice)

If the laptop has a 3½" disc as its hard drive, it should be possible to extract it from the mahine and install it in a caddy to use as an external drive - which can then be plugged into another computer to download all the pictures, documents, etc.

Laptops generally have 2 1/2” hard disks.

Don't know about iPads, but if it's an Android phone then all you need is a USB On the Go adaptor as linked above by @cjmillsnun.

Just be sure to not buy a USB-C to USB-A adaptor by mistake, instead of a Lightning adaptor. The two are easily confused.
