Getting across Paris

What is the easiest train ticket to use crossing Paris these days... GdN - GdL and vv?

Paper tickets have gone so I believe but did check out a 'Navigo Easy' thing,
which can be downloaded to one's phone and then journeys added to it.

Is this the easiest way and from where does one obtain said App...

They are - and in June Eurostar were still selling Carnets de Dix. No doubt at a mark-up!
Or you can pay cash on the bus (EUR2.50 and no change of bus) if you don't want to queue at the machine.

Will the cardboard ticket eventually disappear? If so, when?
There is no plan to completely eliminate the cardboard ticket at this time. It will still be possible to buy some cardboard tickets: the single t+ ticket and the origin-destination ticket, which allows you to travel to the suburbs, will still be available as cardboard tickets.

Good skills. So what I might do is download the 'App' anyway, then see if I can
purchase tickets on board Eurostar and if not, just purchase a couple via the above.

What could possibly go wrong?

PS going in ten days so should still be okay, no?

I was in Paris two weeks ago and although I was using a Navigo Decouverte myself and had no need for the traditional card tickets*, I did see quite a few being used - and saw people buying them at machines.

You will be perfectly good with either your primary or your back up plan.


*Except in one instance, the Orlyval, where the Navigo is not valid and a rather steeply priced single journey ticket was required.

If you're not in a rush, I find the direct GdN-GdL bus is much pleasanter than the RER (not that that's difficult!).

I bought a paper ticket t+ earlier today, so certainly available. They cost €2.10 currently.

If you have an iPhone you can't buy tickets in the app, it is android-only at present, there was a thread about it earlier this year. There can be long queues at GdN for buying tickets so if you can buy in advance online then I would advise doing it

There was an update to the IdF Mobilités app this week which means many more Android phones are now compatible with the phone-based ticketing setup.

My Google Pixel 7a was previously deemed ineligible but now allows me to buy tickets without use of a Navigo card.

I have to say being able to add a few more journeys to your card, on your phone and then simply tapping the card against the back, is great - but even on Android it feels clunky. Every time I tap the card, it triggers the phone to say 'new tag found' or similar, which means you have to find your way back to the app. The transactions work, but it feels like it needs more testing for compatibility issues from one Android device to another (I am assuming it doesn't do this on all phones, or someone would have said something).
