Hi all,

Tomorrow I'm intending on border hopping on a few local lines on the Germany/Poland border. Helpfully Görlitz/Zgorzelec is bus replacement, so I've been looking at a few others.

I know Guben to Gubin is free - with a fare only payable on the Polish section. However Frankfurt (Oder) to Słubice and Forst to Zasieki aren't and it's taken quite some effort to find the correct fare.

This page shows a discounted rate of 1€ for both of the journeys mentioned: https://www.bahn.de/angebot/regio/berlin-brandenburg/grenzuebergangsfahrkarten-polen-deutschland

The border crossing tickets Poland - Germany are issued at the following fixed prices :

Sold by DB Regio , price for a single trip:
Grambow - Szczecin Główny 2.50 Euro
Słubice - Frankfurt (Oder) 1 Euro
Zasieki - Forst (Lausitz) 1 Euro

It then goes on to say that you can get these fares out of DB TVMs as well as from staff on the train. So, having some spare time between connections, I've stood and had a play with a TVM to try and reproduce these fares, but for both I'm instead quoted 4€. I'm not entirely bothered and would pay that anyway - but wonder if it'd be better waiting until I actually get on the train and paying then if such fares actually exist?

It seems that the TVMs want to sell me the VBB tariff, while this is a separate tariff entirely.

Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

When I click on the link you provide, in german it quite clearly says this is the ADDIitonal fare for the sector across the border, thus IN Poland. As it assumes clients will hold a DE-ticket or whatever season already. MIN local fares in Deutschland are around the 2,50 € mark, so that adds up to what you see. No idea as to how to get these add-on tickets.
It may even be the case that in POland you pay with PLN (zloty) but to a different/lower amount. Plus that it may depend on the company used-EC trains will cost more/not accept local fares, though I am also not sure if these even also stop in Slubice-the only link that would be possible.

I hold a Deutschlandticket, so all I'm interested in is the sector over the border. Also only interested in local services.

I've since discovered that the 4€ Słubice-Frankfurt (Oder) ticket is also available in the DB Navigator app, again just at the local tariff. The mysterious 1€ fare again nowhere to be seen. Forst-Zasieki appears to be TVM only as the DB app has a meltdown when you ask for it.

When I took the KD train from Wroclaw to Forst (Lausitz) the conductor simply sold me a ticket to Zasieki, and apparently didn't bother about the part from Zasieki to the border.

In the end I just bought a Słubice to Frankfurt (Oder) single for 4€ in the DB app and had a leisurely stroll to Zgorzelec when crossing into Poland.

The conductor on the Rzepin - Frankfurt/O train did actively check where I was going (as I presented a Zgorzelec-Słubice ticket) and appeared to be armed with a card machine. In case its useful to anyone - we arrived in Frankfurt/O two minutes early without the border control rigmarole that the EuroCity services are subjected to. Meanwhile both EC services on the screen were 60+ mins late...

Polregio shows these cross-border fares:

  • Szczecin Gł. - Grambow = 10,00 zł / 2,50 €
  • Słubice - Frankfurt(Oder) = 4,00 zł / 1,00 €
  • Gubin – Guben = 4,00 zł / 1,00 €
  • Zasieki - Forst(Lausitz) = 5,00 zł / 1,00 €
  • Zgorzelec - Goerlitz = 0,00 zł / 0,00 €
